This home was a collaborative design and construct, knock-down-rebuild project on a sensational waterfront site in Minyama.
With long, easterly views up the river and a large footprint, the site was cleared of its original home to make way for the forever home of its occupants. Keen for a contemporary space to accommodate a multigenerational family who visit frequently, the homeowners commissioned a design to support private zones for retreat and large living areas for connection.
The home was built with passive design principals at the forefront, to make use of northern light and crossflow ventilation to reduce the home’s reliance on mechanical heating and cooling.
The design brief included the use of low maintenance materials, to extend the life of the building and reduce the extent of ongoing maintenance.
Featuring standing seam aluminium cladding, free form stone cladding, polished concrete floors, and thermally modified external timber ceilings, this home has been built to withstand its marine environment.
Sustainability was also a consideration, with the existing swimming pool shell retained and renovated instead of being demolished. The new home and outdoor living zones were seamlessly adapted to suit the original swimming pool location.
Flushed with natural light, this bright and airy home not only features refined details like natural stone bench tops and a three-sided fireplace, it also includes a lift to ensure the homeowners can age in place and still enjoy the water views from their upper level master suite.
